There is a line below the title of "Dead Men Kill" stating, "Author of Calling Squad Cars (Phantom Detective April 1934) , 'Danger Ahead,' etc." I am not sure where "Danger Ahead" is from or if it exists. The Thrilling Adventures February 1934 also mentions this story below the "Green God" title.
The editor requested "Let's know how you liked Dead Men Kill, in this issue."
In the August 1934 issue of Thrilling Detective the answers where in: "Heres a note from Jack Dranen, Jamaica, L.I., who says: 'Just finished your last issue, can't wait to tell you how great Dead Men Kill, by L. Rom Hubbard, is. A wow from first page to last, gave me the shivers! Excuse my scribbling but that story's got me so excited I feel full of action myself!' And Dranen's letter was just the first to come in about the July issue! That's action all right. Remember - stories by (Johnston) McCulley and Hubbard next month! The postman's been deluging us with mail, telling how much you like those two yarn spinners."
The praise continued in the September 1934 issue, which contained "Mouthpiece" by L. Ron Hubbard. In this issue a reader stated:
"I'm a rooter for Dead Men Kill, by L. Ron Hubbard. But then, it's only one of many stories in your magazine that have made the chills race up and down my spine".
In the October, 1934 issue of Thrilling Detective, more praise came in as one reader stated:
"I have just finished Dead Men Kill by L. Ron Hubbard, and I am afraid I'll keep looking over my shoulder to be sure I'm not being followed when I take this letter to the post office. Gosh, but that yarn was spooky!"
